This dog park has a separate area for small dogs under 30 pounds, lights, a gazebo, benches, water spigots, and trees.

This park is poorly managed and the people who bring their animals to this park, half of the time can't control their dogs and the other half, don't pick up after them. There is little grassy areas for the dogs with the exception of the small dog area and the water fountains inside each area are turned off for most of the year, defeating their purpose for being accessible to "fresh" water for the animals that are brought there. I've been to ALOT better parks than this, considering its near the Lakes area of west las vegas, it should be ALOT nicer than this, but you can tell just by looking in there, that there's little to no funding going towards basic upkeep and maintenance of the facilities there. Remember YOUR tax dollars are supposed to be supporting these types of areas but obviously are not.
We used to live across the street from this park and took my in-laws' bulldog here quite often back in 2006-2007, it was a decent dog park back then. Now we have a dog of our own and decided to take her there last night. I was VERY disappointed; owners are expected to clean-up after their pets, we were in the large dog area and apparently no one does this. There was dog poop EVERYWHERE. Not to mention, the other owners were more interested in gossip amongst themselves that they weren't aware of their dogs dominating my dog. One dog even grabbed some of the items in my dog's bag (that I was holding) and I had to chase it around the park to get them back!!! The owners didn't even flinch when I was yelling for help. THREE WORDS= FILTHY, GHETTO, DISAPPOINTING. I tried to play fetch with my dog and every time I threw her ball it landed next to a pile of crap. I will NEVER take her back here.
I enjoy taking my dog to this park, have not seen poop problems, except on occasion. I did experience a dog owner that left their dog at the park, said they were going to the restroom and did not come back for over an hour. I was so close to calling animal control since I was the last person there and kept waiting and watched a very stressful dog trying to jump the fence and running around and around the fence looking for its owners. It was soooo sad. I'd like to give them an earful if I ever see them at the park again.
Spoken like someone who has never had a small dog crunched by a big one. Even the most social of doggies get irritated and can attack. Way better if they are separated by size so that if it happens, the damage is minimized.
I live close to this park so I go fairly frequently. Here are my observations
1) There is not a big poop problem from what I can tell. Yes, every once in a while, mostly in the big dog section, I'll come across some piles. But I've never been to a dog park where every owner was a perfect citizen. There is staff that regularly picks up what owners miss.
2) If you go in the morning or early evening, the people in each section are very friendly, chatty, with well-socialized dogs. If you go later at night or on the weekends, the big dog section can get some bad seeds, but it is not as big of a problem as it was when I first took my GSD puppy 4.5 years ago (back then the park was pretty crappy, but it has improved a lot!). Since my experiences then, I have avoided the big dog section on the weekends when it gets crowded, so the weekend situation may have changed.
3) Yes, people sometimes disobey the weight limits, but I have never seen it be an issue. The fact is that some big dogs don't want to play rough, they just want to hang out or say hi to a lot of people, and it's easier to do that in the small dog section. I'm curious why this would bother anyone. I'm guessing it's the owners and not the dogs who are intimidated by this.
Honestly, I much prefer dog parks that don't separate by weight, and make one big shared area. It forces people to only bring dogs that get along with everyone. This was my favorite thing about the dog parks in San Diego when I lived there.
If you want your dog to step on poop, smell poop, and want poop to get into your vehicle after then this is the park for you otherwise I'd go to another one. Sunset Park is still better.
I come to the park when my dog has a play date, not on my own. I'm just appalled by the amount of neglect that the owner do when it comes to poop. There's a lot of it, and it reeks. The only area that smells okay is the Gazebo. I find that the owners just ignore their dogs, so they don't know if their dog has pooped or not.
Another thing I hate is little pebbles of rock ALL over the place...this is for SMALL dogs, and the pebbles can cause issues. No wonder why the grass is more of a turf than real grass.
The only nice plus thing about this park is it's very big compared to Sunset Park. However, I wouldn't bring my dog here on a normal basis, only play dates.
I have never seen owners at a dog park care less about their dogs. The large dog run is usually well over crowded, dirty and full of owners with lawn chairs and beer arguing over which dog started which fight. We've been there only a handful of times and every time I leave appalled.
The poop makes this park intolerable.... it's everywhere and the place reeks of it. We actually watched an owner walk away as his dog pooped... no effort to pick it up. People must not realize that is how many canine diseases spread... such as parvo.
One of the Few that you can go at night ....
There are tons of POOP!!! POOP here and there...POOP everywhere!!
The Desert Breeze dog park areas are nice, but people don't adhere to the weight limits at all times. Nearly all of the people and dogs I have been around in the over 35lb area have been nice and well behaved.
I go here because I live close by and the people I run in to are very nice.
