Oliver - the neighbor's Westie

These are some of Oliver's (Oli's) puppy pictures; one ear up and one ear down. He comes over almost everyday to play with Gus-Gus, Dory, Farley, and now Rhupert. He is a Westie terrier. He goes to the dog park, the beach, and the regular park almost every day. He owns three girls that love to walk him and they regularly stop by to take Gus-Gus along for the fun. Sometimes there can be up to 5 dogs over visiting one yard and playing.

Soccer Anyone???

Oli gets everyone to play soccer with him. He has his own special ball that he chases and chews for hours.

Rhupert is constantly coming up behind Dory and nipping at her, as all good pups do. She is four and a bit more calm than he is but they still like to play.

Dory and Rhupert new Buddies

Dory and Rhupert are getting along quite well. They love to play chase and wrestle and run around; usually an hour a night. Rhupert is full of puppy energy. We were told to get two dogs that were as different as possible for them to get along well. Dory is a four year old dominate female and it can be hard to find a match. Rhupert is a young male and only knows fun. They have only had one fight and it was over their dinners the first day. Rhupert needs puppy chow to gain weight and Dory is too chubby for puppy chow but she tries to get into it every chance possible. So they eat separately for now.

Rhupert gets a haircut

Rhupert came home and got a bath immediately. The pound said they do not give dogs baths; and the car ride home was smelly. He had not had a grooming recently and his fur was dull and shedding. We are hoping that he will not shed once he gets on a better diet because he is at least half Schnauzer and they do not shed much. He fur got softer after two baths; the next day he got another bath as he still had too much stink.

Rhupert the pound puppy

Rhupert came to live with us on Saturday 8/23/08. We got him at the pound. I was looking for another terrier mix that would not shed too much. He is a schnauzer mix we believe and is somewhere between 8-16 months old. He is still being potty trained and likes to chew on everything. We think he is mostly full grown; as with Dory, he too is under weight at about 14 pounds. He has been altered and been given all his shots and seen the vet for a clean bill of health.

Gus-Gus in Socks

Gus-Gus is not just dressing up for the fun of it. He has skin allergies and will not stop scratching himself. The socks keep his claws from scratching his skin. This also keeps his feet off of the lawn. And I find it terribly cute. We bought a bunch of baby socks and have to wash them all the time.

A Dory Day Out

A day at the beach with Gus-Gus; Dory decided to sit on the bench at lunch time instead of the ground. I got one picture while she was on the bench of the ocean behind her.

Noses II

Every now and then the dogs just want to pose for a good nose shot, assuming the flash is off. They are all half hound and their noses are a big part of life.

We were out yesterday and I got a pic of Gus-gus licking his nose and then another today with Farley licking his nose. Gus-gus is so cute.

Dory Lazing Around

The other night we came and found Dory upside down on the couch with a blanket just sleeping. Every now and then we catch either Dory or Farley upside down on the couch.

What dogs do on Spring Break

Spring break should be spent at the beach. Dory and Gus-Gus had several days of fun in the sun. Digging, sniffing, sun bathing, romping in the water, and then sacked out in the car.

Farley thinks he is small

Farley still thinks he is little and a lap dog. This just shows his issues. Once again he is trying to fit in the small dogs bed rather unsuccessfully. He may not be the brightest bulb but he sure is cute.

Puppy Eyes

They do this a lot, especially when they want food. They know not to bark for food and begging is done with the eyes. Basset hound mixes tend to have this puppy eye thing down.

West Cliff Trail

This is a paved trail that goes for several miles along the cliffs of Santa Cruz. We stopped at one of the lookouts to watch the surfers down below in the water. Dory was not too sure about this but stopped to sniff the ground cover and watch for a minute.

STAIRS!!!!

Dory just loves stairs. We took her to a friends house awhile ago and she spent about 10 minutes running up and down the stairs. She loves having people sit at the top and bottom of the stairway and play "come Dory." She went straight for the stairs at the beach in these pictures and usually easily beats us to the top. She has an A frame for agility and she likes it too, and we find her out in the backyard just standing at the top of it some days. She is quite the climber.

Dory and Gus-Gus playing

Gus-Gus and Dory do their destructive thing. They rip and tear at their toys, shred paper and anything they can get their paws on. Gus-Gus likes to shred paper, water bottles, and generally anything plastic. Dory prefers paper goods and cardboard to shred and cloth. They also play a lot of tug with their toys; Dory likes to lay down and Gus-Gus drags her around the room on her belly. She does the same thing when we play tug with her; she just loves to be dragged.
