Unfenced- huge area with 2 ponds/lakes and a stream, 3 parking lots- the first two have bathrooms and the third is the favorite because of the shade. There is free parking north of C-470 if you are traveling west and get off right after the Santa Fe exit in a dirt lot, then it is about 1/2 mile walk to the park. This fills up fast as their are many many dogs at this park. The rangers freely give tickets to dogs off-leash in other areas of the park (signs are posted) or for driving too quickly in the park.

As far as dog parks go...Chatfield stands way above the rest. It is so huge and there are so many different ways to go. My dogs are always exausted after a trip here. I have been visiting this dog park since I moved here in 1996 and I have been to most of the other dog parks in Colorado, and nothing comes close to this.
It is a great park to go to and enjoy watching your dog interact with other dogs, play ball, swim, or just romp around. The only negative experiences that I have come across is that it is a huge park and some people aren't in control of their dogs. This could cause your dog to get lost or irritate other people if they have to keep stopping and calling their own dogs just so you can catch your dog.
I've been coming to this dog park at least once a week for five years now. I live 20 miles away - in Golden - and this is totally worth the time and effort to go there.
The best parts of the park include the beach areas, near the creek. The dogs can hang out in the shade, take a swim and romp on the sand.
People are very friendly and the dogs are in heaven!!!
I've bought an annual pass for the past four years - it's worth it!!
