Lighthouse Field State Beach (including Its Beach) were closed to off leash use as of November 15, 2007. The City of Santa Cruz just ended its 30 year lease with the State. The State now manages this land and does not allow for off leash use. The City would like to purchase this property but does not like the 1.4 million dollar price tag. Between 10am and 4pm dogs are only allowed on the field area on leash (no dogs on the beach at all).

Review 1

This was closed to off leash use in November 2007 when the State regained control of the property.  The City would like to buy the property and re-open it to off leash use but so far this has not happened.  This park has a beach and then across the street is a large field with lots of paths for walking.  It is still a great place to go even on leash.  Many people walk their dogs along west cliff because it has a nice path along the coast and can be gorgeous on a sunny day.  It can get crowded and noisy on weekends and in the summer so if your dog is a bit shy it may be best to walk in the field where there is less traffic and bikes.
