Big Dogs vs. Small Dogs

I think Big Dog owners need to ask themselves why they feel the need to bring their big dogs over to the "small" dog area ... and save the "there's no grass" excuse.

Need feedback on fundraiser for new Sod!

I want to put together a fundraiser to get the big dog side new grass. I am trying to see what kind of commitment I can get from fellow dog owners. I was thinking about a crab feed and proceeds going to the Park. I will need volunteers for the feed. I believe I have a distributor on boaqrd to provide the seed. I will need fencing (temporary) so we can close off the area in sections while the grass matures. Any feedback is appreciated.

Folsom Dog Park

My dog loves the park but they really need to clean up more often because when it is a nice weekend, the trash cans are full and the poop bags are all gone. So i suggest that the city clean up on Tueadays and Saturdays that way it won't smell so bad.

Where is it?

Fun!!!!

I went to this park for the first time on Saturday (01/30/2010) because the SUN was finally out and my poor doggy needed some outside exercise and some interaction with other doggies. WOW.......It was so fun. There were tons of people and dogs there and neither Jake (my dog) or myself had any problems. He had a great time playing, slobbering, peeing, and smelling. The park is exactly what it needs to be. It is gated, has plenty of space, and running water. I was very happy with our little trip and will definitely be back with Jake.
Enjoy.

There is still no grass. They did put something down (don't know what} so it wouldn't be as muddy

I really like this dog park;

I really like this dog park; however, if you have a large breed dog and you bring it over to the "Small Dog" area and it starts running around, trampling the smaller dogs, that is not ok! I have a 10 pound dog who has been well-socialized with all breeds, but as soon as a big dog starts running towards her she gets very scared and starts to shake because she's been run over and hurt before. There's a small dog area specifically so they can run and play and not be chased and run down by bigger dogs. Please be respectful of this when bringing your big dog over. If they start to chase the smaller dogs, even in play, it is your responsibility to remove your dog and place it into the "All Dogs" area. Or be prepared to be pay the vet bill for any damages.

Is there grass now?

Hello, I have not been yet and I was thinking about taking my large dog this weekend. I was just wondering if there is now grass on the big dog side or is it all muddy?
Thanks

Big dogs on small side

I have one large dog and two small. I take the Golden retriever to the small dog side because he is very old. He doesn't do much but lay around, but he likes to go. It has never been a problem.

I think some big dogs do

I think some big dogs do well on the small dog side puppies and very old slow dogs.

Overall a great place. Dogs

Overall a great place.
Dogs like to play and what may seem ruff to us humans is just fine for most dogs. There is a difference between ruff play and an aggressive dog. Aggressive dogs will often lash out at other dogs or people and strike. It is the responsibility of the owners to know the difference and mind that there dog does not hurt other dogs. Just because your dog is small does not give it an excuse for being dominant, possessive and aggressive.

If you want to bring your dog to the park and not have interaction with other animals you are at the wrong place, and if you bring your aggressive possessive dog this is not the place to be until you have control over your pet

stop complaining about small breeds being 'attacked'
4

If you own a small breed, you have to stop being so sensitive about the big dogs near your little dog - there is a reason there are 2 sides to the park. Your small dog of course is more likely to get trampled, it's a small dog. If there are bigger "vicious" dogs (I presume most dogs who are bigger are likely deemed more "agressive" by a small dog owner), then it is your responsibility to tell the owner of the large dog that perhaps their animal is a risk to others and should be with other large dogs. If someone said that to me, I would be so embarassed, of course I would leave.
On the big dog side, I find it extremely annoying when there are little toy dogs running around because their "sibling" is a big dog and they dont want to separate them. Fine, but you're going to have to deal with it when the big dogs inevitably stumble over the smaller dog. I've seen it happen, and it's the fault of the little dog's owner. Should teach him/her a lesson.

It is mostly great, the fencing is good has small dog area and water. It would be great to have grass though.

Small dogs

There needs to be a dog height requirement in the smaller dog area. I have taken my French Bulldog's and my little one has been harassed several times by a big dog.
This breeds aggressive behaviors between the dogs. If one is aggressive the pack will follow and it can be ugly.

Where's the grass??
1

There's no grass on the big dog side. It's a dusty dirt field. When the park first opened, there was nice new sod. What happened?? We were so happy when Folsom finally got it's own dog park but frankly we won't be back because it's such a mess to go there with all the dirt and dust. It's pretty sad to say but we'd rather travel to the Fair Oaks dog park. (it's really nice)

Big does should not be allowed on small side

I have a eight pound Shiatsu who loves playing with other dogs, she loves it at the park but I fear for her safety, to often the bigger dogs are in with the small dogs, the last time I was there a large dog tried to attack her, I put myself between them, sorry to say will no longer go there

After a few long days they really stink. They need to be moved away from the gate. Some people bring drinks with them and just put them on top of everything else. Drinks take up so much room

Making the Dog Park better
4

I am at this park whenever it is open. I love it there.
Put a fence in the middle of the yards. Add water for the other side and you never have to close the park. One side would be open at all times. On weekends you could open both sides. Also, if anybody has the stackable chairs they are not using they could donate them to the park. Seating is very scarce. A posted sign would be helpful.

My dog is training for Agility and It would be nice to have jumps and such avalable... maybe they could be purchased through donations... I'm not sure but otherwise the park is great!

I love taking my two dogs to the park weekly, it'd just be nice if there were more shade for the summer months to come!

Too Many Big Dogs in Small Dog Side

I have a small 7lb Chihuahua who is very intimidated by large dogs. The last time there was three lab size dogs in the small dog side. I had to leave early because one bite from one of them would have been the death of my dog.

Great!

I frequent the park on a weekly basis as it is less than a half mile from my home. I think it is superb. The enclosure is secure, everyone is friendly and positive and my dog has never been attacked. The grass is not perfect, but we are in the middle of a stage three drought and the park is visited by hundreds of active dogs. I understand why the park is often closed and think those that complain are neglecting to recognize that the park is free.

small dog park area

I have been visiting the dog park since it opened with my daschund. My dog has been harassed by uncontrolled children and attached by large dogs that do not belong in the small dog park area. There needs to be a height limit on all dogs allowed in the small dog park area. My dog loves playing with other small dogs but the potential for injury concerns me.

Needs work, but great fun for dogs and owners
3

I've been there a few times in 2009 with my two dogs. They had lots of fun there. One day there were as many as 30+ dogs on the "big" side alone. Much of the grass is gone and needs repairing, but the dogs don't seem to mind. The park is closed way too much. Mon-Thurs in winter! I wish there were more benches throughout the field and more garbage cans as well. Most owners pick up after their dogs, but there is still alot of poop around the margins. But, all in all, we will be back...because there just aren't enough off-leash dog parks around, and this is not bad for being FREE. Plus there is a skate park ($2 admission) and a BMX park ($2) just a few steps away for the kids to hang out at while you and "Bingo" toss around the frisbee.

So Disappointed

My Boston Terrier group made plans to meetup at the park on Saturday, February 14th. Much to our disappointment the park was closed - CLOSED ON A SATURDAY???

CLOSED TOO MUCH!

This park is GREAT, but it needs to be open more often. I understand why it needs to be closed, but one day a week would be just fine!
