This was a wonderful hike to go on with our boxer Laila. There were plenty of spots to take a rest and get her some water and lots of other friendly dogs. The trail itself can get pretty intense at points, but not too intense for the dogs! All in all a wonderful hour or so on the trail. Beware of little fiesty dogs however. There were LOTS of them.
I'm taking my almost 2 year old boxer "Laila" here today, I hope it's a good park :)
I must begin by stating that this the first and only dog park I've been to, but from what I've read about what makes a good dog park, this one ranks high.
First there are 2 entrances, w/a graduated entrance. There are trails that can be taken, some are paved, some not. There are watering stations, as well as water bowls for the dogs. There are garbage cans along the trails to dispose of waste. There are bag dispensers in case you forgot yours. People are very friendly and well mannered as are their dogs. Every now and then you may run into an aggressive pooch, but most dog owners handle them well. There are 2 children only play areas (one in the grass the other off the side of a trail). Also there are benches and shade (the shade depending on the time of day it is). Overall it has been a pleasant experience there and Niam loves all the room to run off leash and socialize/play with the other doggies.
Also I must mention the views are amazing on a clear day you can see all the say to the ocean and even Catalina Island. You can always see the observatory and Hollywood sign. The best view ever is at twilight as the sunsets and the city lights turn on. The city is breath taking.
I caution any small dog owner to be aware of their surrounding in the mornings and sunset as there are coyotes that have been spotted occasionally. Also if your dog does not obey you, you may not want to let him off leash as there are cliffs due to it being a canyon. So far Niam and I have not had a problem with either of these issues and we hope to stay that way :)
