Dog Park Aggression

There is a reason dog parks have rules and there are some common sense things that can be done to ensure safety of the dogs.

Dogs should not be on leash in a dog park ever.  Leashes constrain the scared dogs and can make them more prone to snap.  Other dogs that require a leash and that much attention should not be in the park.  Aggressive dogs are never welcome.  Call the city or county that runs the park if there is an overly aggressive dog and have them banned.  The police in our metropolitan area regularly circulate the parks and dog parks.

Some dog parks have limit certain breeds such as pit bulls or other stronger dogs that when aggressive can cause large amounts of damage.  Other parks require certain breeds be muzzled at the dog park.

Many dog parks require your dog be altered (spayed or neutered.)  Unaltered dogs tend to be more aggressive and cause more problems.

If your park has dog aggression be sure to call the local law enforcement and leave the park until the offending dog goes.  Don't risk your safety or your dogs safety.  Aggression is never welcome from dog or human.  If your dog park does not seem to have enough rules such as leashes off at the gate, spaying, and neutering then ask the city/county to add them as a measure of safety.

Some cities and counties require a dog park tag (usually $10-$20 a year) that requires all owners and dogs to register and submit proof of shots and possibly altering.  It is a small fee to cover costs but it does make it easier to ban certain bad dogs from the park and easier for the park enforcement to see the tags and kick people out who are not registered.
