Book Review of Indognito - A Book of Canines in Costume

The pictures in this hardcover book are beautifully photographed dog’s in costume. The pages are bright and colorful photos and include captions about the costume and breed of dog. This book can be enjoyed by dog lovers and well as children. This is a whimsical book and my favorite photos include ahoy, matey! + bulldog (a bulldog as a pirate), penguin + Beagle, ballerina + Pug, and rock star + Brussels Griffon to name a few. Each dog is dressed up in a different costume and usually gets its own colorful page to show off. This book features Chihuahuas, a Beagle, Labrador Retrievers, a Dachshund, Pugs, a Puggle, a Bulldog, a Tibetan Terrier, a Maltese, a French Bulldog, and many more breeds.
I liked the diversity of the breeds and that they were all of the photos were labeled, so I did not have to guess and what type of dog was posing. Some pages included a famous quote having to do with the costumes the dogs were wearing; but otherwise there are not many words. For instance on the page with santa’s little helper + pug, the quote is “the gift that keeps on giving.” It is more of a visually interesting book with all of the colorful costumes and bright backgrounds. The author, Karen Ngo, lives in New York City and seems to have gotten her inspiration from the dogs of the city at their many costumed events; which is included in the foreword of the book. I enjoyed reading the story of her inspiration, as well as, how she cajoled the dogs into being dressed up and sitting still for their pictures! Her dog photography work has been published in magazines, calendars, and stationary. My husband even suggested we leave it out on the coffee table.
